Friday September Canadian Ale

Thanks the goodness for the days of vacationing. Yay.

Made me some beer today. Yup. Beer. Mmmm nothing like making your own beer. It’s satisfying. In an artisanal way.

Alice Cooper is really cool. I’m just now watching “Suck,” a nice Canadian film. Good stuff. “You drank the guy,” is pretty-much the best quote from a movie I’ve heard in a while. Just sayin’.

Although this was another can — Munton’s Canadian Style Ale— I figured I could make things a bit different this time by adding some Carmelized crushed grains.

I brought the water up to about 140 degrees Farenheit and steeped the crushed grains for about 20 minutes. I added about 3/4 of kilogram of corn sugar and raised the heat for about 45 minutes. It didn’t come to  a boil, but that could be because I kept the lid off and continued to stir it; I didn’t want it to gack-up on the bottom of the brew pot.

I chilled the wort for about half an hour and then siphoned the wort into the fermenter. I took some of the wort and heated it up in the microwave for about 40 seconds. I added the yeast and let it sit for a few minutes. Then, I poured the yeast into the fermented and stirred it all up. Finally, I plugged it with the valve and put it away for a week.
