Solar Windmill

My latest toy is a solar toy kit that I bought through the good folks at Make Magazine. It has enough parts to make six different configurations and everything comes in a 25x15cm -or so- box. The instructions said that you could just snap the pieces out, but I ended up using snips. Then I used a little file to smooth down the tabs so there weren’t any protrusions. This part took longer than I expected.

All the parts are easy to assemble and the instructions are picture-based. Since the drawings are engineering-type drawings it’s really easy to be sure you’re getting it correct.

I set up the windmill first. I noticed right away that the solar cell really does need to be in direct sunlight in order to make the motor work.

So far, fun and cool.
